Mission

The core mission of a senior software engineer is to lead and drive the development of high-quality software solutions while providing technical expertise and mentorship to the engineering team. This role involves designing and architecting complex systems, ensuring code quality and performance, and making strategic technical decisions that align with business objectives. A senior software engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams, including product managers and designers, to understand requirements and deliver robust, scalable and maintainable software. Additionally, they are responsible for staying abreast of industry trends, fostering innovation and advocating for best practices to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the engineering team.

Scope & Reporting

  • Team: 5–8 engineers within a product squad (with peers in product, design, data).

  • Reports to: Engineering Manager.

  • Location: Europe-first, remote.

What you’ll own (outcomes)

  • Predictable delivery: Clear plans and commitments; delivery variance within agreed thresholds; minimal rollover.

  • Quality & reliability: Defect/leakage rates, SLOs, change failure rate, mean time to recovery.

  • Flow & efficiency: Lead time for changes, deployment frequency, WIP limits respected.

  • Customer impact: Team‑level product metrics (e.g., activation, adoption, retention) agreed with PM.

  • Team health: Engagement, retention, hiring, skills growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and architecture of complex software systems.

  • Develop high-quality, maintainable, and scalable code.

  • Oversee and participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and standards.

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and prioritize technical requirements and solutions.

  • Ensure the performance, security, and reliability of software applications.

  • Drive the adoption of best practices and modern development methodologies.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve advanced technical issues and bugs.

  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and emerging technologies.

  • Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making for technical direction and innovation.

  • Document technical designs, processes, and system architecture.

  • Lead and contribute to agile development practices, including sprint planning and retrospectives.
